Maritime Legacy in Nova Scotia - Restoration of Bluenose II

Bluenose II

Surrounded by the vast Atlantic Ocean, Nova Scotia has a strong and long maritime history. To continue our sailing legacy for years to come, Nova Scotia's famous nautical ambassador is undergoing a major rebuild. The Bluenose II will return to sailing in the summer of 2012 after her restoration commenced in 2010.

The project is taking place at the Lunenburg Shipyard in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia which is the same construction site as the Bluenose in 1921. The public is invited to learn about preserving this important aspect of Nova Scotia's heritage and can view the progress of the rebuild live on Nova Scotia Webcams.

Bluenose II Rebuild

The work is being carried out by the Lunenburg Shipyard Alliance consisting of Snyder's Shipyard, Covey Island Boatworks & Lunenburg Industrial Foundry & Engineering. Visitors can visit the Lunenburg Shipyard this spring Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM until May 20th and see Nova Scotia shipbuilding at its best.

Our downtown Halifax hotel is a short drive the Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The Westin Nova Scotian is a Canadian heritage hotel nestled in the historic Seaport District along the Halifax Harbour. Our Halifax hotel is one of the original railway hotels in Canada and is part of the beautiful history of Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotian offers all the modern amenities with restored historic character original to the hotel. For the best in Halifax accommodations, stay with us at the Westin Nova Scotian before sailing off to view the restoration of the Bluenose II along the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
