99 Years Since the Sinking of the Titanic

99 years ago today, the RMS Titanic sank off the coast of Newfoundland. On April 10, 1912, the Titanic made its maiden voyage leaving from Southampton, destined for New York City.
The Titanic hit an iceberg on April 14, only 3 days later, and sunk at 2:20 AM on April 15. There were 2,223 passengers on the ship and 1,517 died. Although they complied with regulations, there were only enough lifeboats to carry 1,178 people. Many men died because women and children were told to go first.
The Titanic was developed by the most experienced engineers and used advanced technologies and extensive safety features to ensure to make it unsinkable. It was owned by the White Star Line and constructed in Belfast, Ireland.
